It’s been one helluva ride!!

We all have been so busy that we barely got time to update this blog… In fact people even forgot that it existed.

Over 50 events to be taken care of, an online event which became the craze of the campus overnight, workshop registrations, dealing with the media partners and the sponsors ( an impressive list of them too, thanks to Sheru n the dean ‘especially’ J), dispatching the posters, t shirt designs and the list is endless. Of course we have been busy… and how!

Last to last week must be remembered for ‘Empuzzled’. The word was on everyone’s lips. 800 participants from all over… One event… The online treasure hunt kept the best of sastra’s brains awake for 2 consecutive nights. Cracking puzzles, deciphering code, acting smart, everything was on the table…the organizers barely slept.. Shailesh and Nagarjun did a great job… Cheers to them!

And then we had to dispatch the posters to 650 colleges all over India. One colossal task. We got our mahila upbhokta sangh together (just kidding, the girls infra and the P.R. team) to help us out with the packaging. A good full Sunday spent and the invites were off!

And last night was the topper… The final Daksh tee came to life…! Of course, after a hella-lota-crap. One word… awesome! Thanks to Sher saab again.

These things and many others as I fail to recollect, but then, one thing looks crystal clear…

As I look back now, all I see is things falling into place… it was our mission to make this happen… to work towards our goal of becoming a tech fest which guarantees a learning experience like no other …and here we are … everything falling into place.

Brace yourselves guys n gals…And dig it!!

U people are going to experience a spectacle which‘ll sweep you off your feet … u people are going to experience engineering!

How I met DAKSH

Realized how difficult it is to have a third person’s perspective of something when you are yourself a part of it. Wanted to go through my ideas and views of DAKSH, and the changes these gave undergone over the past two years. Excerpts from my diary….

The 2nd day of DAKSH’07

It was SASTRA’s 1st ever tech fest apparently. For the first time, college felt like college- extended in-time, suspended classes, food stalls, no dress-code…. watched a few brilliant robotics events, but it stumps me how anyone could design those complicated bots. Can’t imagine myself doing any of that or even remotely involving myself with a “tech”- fest.

Someday, start of my 2nd year

I am now a part of the media and publicity team of DAKSH. Have absolutely no clue as to what I am supposed to do. Don’t even know anyone in the team except Divya Ganesan…. my first team meeting tomorrow..

Right after DAKSH’08

DAKSH’08 totally rocked!! It was one big success and everyone knows the stats- 90+ colleges, 4238 participants, etc, etc… Personally, MY daksh rocked too! Okay, now got to go collect articles for the magazine, before Prabhath bashes me up…: D

Start of this academic year

Just back from the 1st media meeting of DAKSH’09! And the media people are…. Prabhath (the one and only, kid cum oldie…Teddy), Divya (too-many-nicknames-to-fit-in-here), Varshik (the self-titled orion), Krishnateja (KT…holmes!), SRIKUMAR(the mad scientist), HARSHA( the heartthrob{at least, he claims to be!}), Karan(the pink DJ!), Anirudh (dingry, the coffee man), Kavya ( the pirate) and ME!

A day after the first year’s orientation for DAKSH’09

The first years overwhelmed us by their enthusiasm and almost brought the roof down with their response! The JVC Audi couldn’t accommodate the number who turned up! In the attempt to Dakshify them, we ended up being in awe of their spirit!

Today

The best part about being in the team is not the effort I put in or the time I spent working or even the success of DAKSH, but the amount of fun I had along the way and the number of people I got to know. The feeling of “I belong” comes only when you start understanding the inside jokes. All those hi5s, the zillion treats, arguments over coffees, the constant leg pulling, multilingual conversations (English, Hindi, Telugu, Tamil and a lot of gibberish ), the unbearably non-funny PJs, the frequently heard “media rocks” shouts, cranky video shoots, the hilarious and embarrassing goof ups, daksh “parivar” bonding, why-don’t-we-get-OD cribs… ha.. the list seems endless…
And now, DAKSH occupies this huge chunk of my laptop memory, my note books, my ORKUT profile, my room door, my mail inbox, and my college life!!

Daksh Unblogged!

Its time i made my entry in the famed blog of Daksh!! I am allowing myself to take a break from my non-stop messaging spree and gossipping with my roommates and (mom and dad, if you are reading this) studying too ;-). And what am i going to write about?? Since i have nothing much to talk about, i want to just sit and type away to glory till my fingers get tired of typing and my brain gets tired of thinking, considering thinking is something beyond my capabilities and the only thing that keeps striking me is how the girls are having a change in their attitude, what with the multitude of interactive seesions and clubs going on here along with the flurry of activities happening informally like one of my roommates taking care of the robotics club, while other is busy handling multimedia sessions, the third is being held up with dance practises, the fourth busy collecting recos and writing sop’s for her masters and finally its me, who’s trying to make the longest sentence here just for the heck of it!!!

Observing the making of these clubs from a panoramic view, one would be wondering, what is the need for all this (Unless of course, it doesn’t involve the typical classroom hours and boring lectures!) It’s a famous notion among people that girls are not technically sound. Daksh is here to change that attitude. Keeping this in mind, we have several interactive sessions in Multimedia and electronics (Ishwarya, Madhu and Janani were more than willing to get the girls interested and participate in the girls with their fun-filled multimedia sessions. And Deepthi, Ramya, Shraddha were obliged to do the same). The idea of these clubs might not seem something worth mentioning. But, it’s the way the names mentioned above have managed to change the outlook here. This is not going to be just some club! Its going to be a regular event in hostel! Its going to be a tradition! Because, we have something to look forward to. So guys, next time, a girl beats you in designing a web-site or coding a mind-blowing bot, please don’t be surprised! Because we are Dakshified! Just like you all are!!

We’re back!

“I am enough of an artist to draw freely upon my imagination.”

-          Albert Einstein

Einstein goes on to say that some where down the line, we let go of being artists… our imagination gets  tampered with and is directed strictly on a road, like an oxcart with whips. Imagination is the key, he says, to great discoveries and success. Break free … think freely. And Daksh is here for you to provide the right platform. I m sure unmatched talent is among us, just waiting to emerge… waiting for the right opportunity.

After the stupendous success of Daksh’08, here we are once again, presenting you a brand new edition of Daksh. And now when I look back, we’ve got a lot to live up to. Daksh’08 broke all barriers and became the second biggest tech fest in south India in terms of participation! It was an experience like no other where students were exposed to a lifetime of technical expertise and competitions.

Preparations for Daksh’09 are on full swing. Recently we launched “D.O.P.E.”, SASTRA’s first local online programming contest on the Wi- Fi and received a huge response. Around 70 participants took up the problems with grit and the best came through. One could see students sitting in front of Chith and GNV to solve the coding problems.

We at Daksh believe in quality.  As I am writing this, the cluster heads are going through a rigorous exercise of shaping the best problem statements tech fests‘ve ever seen. Grueling discussions on feasibility, participation and even “awesomeness” of each and every event are being scrutinized. And the stakes are too high this time with truckloads of prize money! Here’s your chance of striking it rich…

And we’ve got a lot in store for you this time… believe me, a whole new range of exciting workshops, events, guest lectures and unrestrained fun. Oh yes, I almost forgot… Daksh is going international this time. Keep watching this space for more details.

Give your imagination a free reign … Unprecedented fame and fortune await those who dare! Gear up! Get ready… Get Dakshified!! Experience the real engineering.
