MODEL CONFERENCE OF PARTIES                 Register

Intro

The issue of the era- that affects every organism unicellular or multi cellular is – THE CLIMATE CHANGE. Text book, Magazines, Newspapers everywhere we can find one or the other article highlighting the causes, effects etc of climatic changes.

“Climate change is almost invisible; it is a slow cancer that is created by our parasitic behavior on the planet and will slowly drain us of the means of survival.”

These words highlight the intensity of the current precarious condition. The Conference of Parties (COP), an initiative of United Nations Framework Convention on climate change, an international treaty, is an annual event happening since 1995, to assess the progress of dealing with climatic changes. The infamous Copenhagen Summit in December 2009 let down the hopes of people across the globe when it failed to resolve any of the current problems and ended up creating more. MCOP or Model Conference Of Parties, an idea developed along the lines of Model United Nations where students take up roles as diplomats, debate and come up with innovative solutions to major concerns of any nation of our world, is an excellent opportunity for us -the youth to seize the moment, become aware of the various treaties like The Kyoto Protocol and put forth our opinions on effective ways to combat the dangers of climate change. Here at MCOP be prepared to put your communication and oratory skills to a tough test, get ready to challenge the best brains across the country with your policy analysis, conflict resolution, technical writing, active listening and critical thinking.

In Recognition of the world climate change issue, DAKSH 2012 will sphere head MCOP@ SASTRA. The event is a flagship event which had its debut during DAKSH 5.0. Owing to the high feedback received from more than 100 participants representing various countries, the event is all set to have its stand this time during DAKSH 2012.

MCOP is 2 or 3 day event with an Executive Board monitoring the session which shall end with a resolution being passed by majority of delegates. The maximum number of participants is 100.

Yet, as serious and as far reaching in its consequences as the greatest war, the fight against climate change is low on the list of priorities Instead of being at the top of every government agenda it languishes near the bottom of a long list of priorities. It seems so simple to point out that you cannot have safety, trade, wealth or health if the planet you inhabit is flooded, subjected to severe weather events. It’s TIME FOR ACTION! As a responsible future citizens its our duty to spread the awareness and help our mother Earth.
